NEUROFILAMENTA-L

ELISA-VIDITEST Neurofilamentum-L kit detects NF-L in cerebrospinalfluid.

NF-L is the most abundant neurofilament among the three neurofilaments found in neuronal cells, i.e. neurofilamenmtum-L, -M, and –H. The molar ration between neurofilaments is 4:2:1 (NF-L:NF-M:NF-H).

NF-L levels in cerebrospinal fluid are of diagnostic importance in neurological diseases associated with axonal degeneration and axonal degradation. (Tullberg M et al. Acta Neurol. Scand. 2002;105,6417.)

Higher concentrations of NF-L have been described in cerebrospinalfluid of patients with:

  • Multiple sclerosis (Malmeström C et al., Neurology. 2003 Dec 23;61(12):1720-5)
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Zetterberg H et al., Eur J Neurol. 2007 Dec;14(12):1329-33.Epub 2007 Sep 26)
  • Upper motor neuron disease(Rosengren LE et al., Neurochem. 1996 Nov;67(5):2013-8)
  • Dementia associated with Alzheimer`s disease and Parkinson`s disease(Holmberg B et al., Mov Disord. 1998 Jan;13(1):70-7. de Jong D et al., JNeurol Neurosurg Psychiatry. 2007 Sep;78(9):936-8. Epub 2007 Feb 21)
  • Frontotemporal and vascular dementia
  • Lyme borreliosis

NF-L levels in cerebrospinal fluid can help to differentiate Alzeheimer demetia from other types of dementias.

The development of the ELISA-VIDITEST Neurofilamentum-L was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Bartos from Prague Psychiatric Center and funded by project Academy of Sciences, KAN200520701 (Nano-PCR).
