ELISA-VIDITEST human anti-Benzo(a)pyrene and ELISA-VIDITEST mouse anti- Benzo(a)pyrene are kits for detection of antibodies against benzo(a)pyrene in human and animal serum dedicated for people exposed to air pollution. The kits are based on immobilized antigen that bind anti-Benzo(a)pyrene antibodies from blood.
Antibodies against polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (anti-PAH) have been found in serum of people exposed to high level of these carcinogens.
The most closely monitored carcinogen is benzo(a)pyren. We suppose that the presence of anti-PAH antibodies neutralizes PAH and prevents their metabolic activation. Chronic exposition to PAH (e.g. smoking) can cause decreased immunity status and therefore can lead to variations in anti-PAH levels. Thus chronically exposed organisms can be liable to experience PAH induced illnesses such as cancer.
The development of the kits was funded by project EUREKA OE211 (Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic), project 2B06150 of National Innovation Policy II (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic).
